An eighteen-year-old was arrested in Tucson Arizona, accused of conspiracy to commit acts of terror against government buildings in Maricopa and Pima counties.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office have arrested an 18-year-old Tucson man they say conspired to carry out acts of terrorism against government buildings in Maricopa and Pima counties. What acts and which buildings have not been identified at this time.
Mahin Khan was arrested in Tucson following an investigation by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to the FBI. He was booked into Maricopa County jail on suspicion of conspiring to commit terrorism.
Attorney General’s Office spokeswoman Mia Garcia and FBI officials said Khan’s alleged plans did not involve the Fourth of July or any related festivities.
“The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is working closely with federal authorities to keep Arizonans safe. We are not aware of any threats Khan made that involve the Fourth of July holiday weekend,” Garcia said.
Garcia also stated.
“Khan faces two charges: conspiracy to commit terrorism and terrorism” and “there are no additional suspects and no current threat to the public involving Khan’s plans.”
Khan had his initial court appearance but Garcia did not know if Khan had retained an attorney. The court records have been sealed in order to protect the ongoing investigation so unfortunately no more details have been made available at this time.
A man who said he was Khan’s father, contacted at his home in Tucson, declined to comment and did not appear interested in making a statement in the near future.
Records show Khan lived with his family in a gated community near River Road and Camino Boscaje Escondido in north Tucson close to the Catlina Foothills. This is just a hop skip and a jump from a position I held at a company two years ago. Additional family members could not be reached for comment.
Neighbors who lived near the Khan family at a prior residence described the family as quiet, but where not interested in an interview.
Once again, a “Gun Free Zone” was to be the target for his acts of terrorism. According to the Crime Prevention Research Center (“CPRC”) which released a revised report showing that 92% of all mass public shootings between January 2009 and July 2014 took place in gun-free zones. The CPRC report was released in response to an “Everytown for Gun Safety” study claiming,
only 14% of mass public shootings took place in gun-free zones. Everytown actually claimed 86% of such incidents occurred in places where guns were allowed.
The propaganda and agenda driven reporting perpetrated by anti-gun news agencies, activist and lobbies are dangerous. Be sure to do your research before accepting anti-gun propaganda as fact.
News organizations, lobbies and activist such as “Everytown for Gun Safety,” “Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” and “The Huffington Post” are just a few of the many organizations whose anti-gun agenda drives their media and reporting.
I am an Arizonan that currently resides on the east side of Tucson so this one landed close to home. If there was any wonder as to why I carry a firearm, I think you have your answer. Thankfully, the perpetrator was arrested before he could carry out his acts of terrorism.
Stay tuned for updates that will be posted as information trickles in.
