Republican Controlled Senate Nuclear Option
Does anyone remember the Senate Nuclear Option which occurred on Tuesday the 21st of November back in 2013? I do! With a Republican controlled Senate Nuclear Option on the table, the tides have changed.
Harry Reid of the liberal Senate invoked the “Nuclear Option” which eliminates the need for a “Cloture” vote to end debate over executive and judicial confirmations. In a nutshell, it invokes a simple majority (50+1) up/down vote for confirmation of all executive and most judicial nominees.
The Nuclear Option was invoked –at the time– to push through the confirmation of three justices to the “U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.” Since the change several justices and executive nominees have been confirmed through the simple majority rule.
The liberal media touted headlines such as,
Which I am sure they will quickly come to regret.
Harry Reid while speaking on the Senate floor stated that the Nuclear Options was needed to make the Senate work again. Mitch McConnell warrened that this was a bad idea and that the Democrats will regret this move. McConnell also pointed out that the Senate’s record for upholding Obama’s confirmations was an illustrious 99%. Otherwise the Nuclear Option is not needed.
With Trump to be the 45th President of the United States and the Republican party maintaining a simple majority in the Senate, I am sure the Senates minority is sweating up a storm.
The democrats are beginning to understand what they have done and the consequences that will ensue.
