While participating in a public forum on gun control hosted by the Denver Post, Democratic Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette tries to explain that a ban on high capacity magazines will work. Based of pure ignorance, as to the difference between ammo and magazines, DeGette goes on to say.
“I will tell you these are ammunition — bullets — so the people who have those now they are going to shoot them, and so if you ban — if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available,”
Magazines, however, are reusable as they can be filled with more bullets.
A spokeswoman for DeGette issued a statement to the Denver Post, after receiving much deserved criticism as to her ignorance on the subject, explaining that the congresswoman who has worked on a high-capacity magazine ban for years
“simply misspoke” — “she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism.”
Yet, clips can also be reused — and the questioner, in which she was responding to, asked specifically about high-capacity magazines, not clips. Releasing another ignorant statement to explain the first ignorant statement does not give much credibility.
After her remarks, the audience in the forum at The Denver Post building laughed.
Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith responded, as the audience laughed, by urging people who hadn’t shot a gun to
“get to the facts … Let’s be educated as we make this decision.”
The National Rifle Association was not quite as diplomatic in response to DeGette’s comments.
“Two words — pretty stupid,” said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.
The Colorado GOP responded also,
“It’s extremely alarming that Rep. DeGette is running federal legislation to ban magazine clips, when she doesn’t even know what a magazine clip is,” said spokesman Owen Loftus. “Rep. DeGette’s comments show that Democrats are more concerned with appeasing their radical base, than standing up for responsible, law abiding citizens.”
DeGette’s “magazine” comment was not the only controversial thing she said during the forum.
She laughed off a senior citizen’s concern about his ability to defend himself by saying,
“the DPD would be there in minutes.”
“You’d probably be dead anyway,” she added.
DeGette’s statement reminds me of an old phrase,
“When seconds count, the police are minutes away”
I am starting to see a pattern here. It appears that the representatives that are pushing to ban, regulate and restrict our Second Amendment rights simply don’t care about understanding the basics of firearms, accessories and our right to bear arms. I am astonished as to the amount of rhetoric, propaganda and flat out lying that these so called gun control representatives are spewing into the public’s ear.
In any case here is the video of Democratic Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette making false claims based off her ignorance.
